To watch Michael Phelps swim is as close to watching athletic perfection as I think I’ll ever see. This is his world record breaking 200 free effort at the World Championships in Melbourne. Truly, he makes it look so effortless and simple – most importantly he seems to have fun doing it!
Watch this:
WOW! The 2008 Olympics are going to be amazing if he keeps this up!
After a few months hiatus, I am once again writing for CompleteRunning.com. I really love working with my co-authors at Compete Running – they are such a positive, energentic bunch – they make everything fun and interesting. I honestly count myself very lucky to be part of something so exciting. Complete Running is truly a place for runners of all ages and abilities to come and become part of a large running community. With that, here is a taste of my article over at Complete Running:
There is a new – or at least a totally redesigned – player in the route mapping website space. MapMyRun.com has been online for quite sometime but has just recently released a new and improved beta site. Route mapping sites have become an essential part of my training plan and I think – after a brief review – that this is my new favorite. This site features vastly improved functionality over the old version and other route mapping applications. It features great running specific features that will keep you coming back to the site for more than just mapping a run.
Also, lucky for me – and I hope for all of you too – I get to write an article every week. My new feature is the ‘Site of the Week’ – so if YOU have a site you’d like to see featured on Complete Running, please let me know about it.. I’m always looking for new content and interesting websites to visit.
Finally, keep your eyes open for exciting changes at Complete Running! I’ve been lucky enough to have a hand in some of the changes and let me tell you – it’s gonna be great!
Today was supposed to be a run/swim day. It turned out to be only a run day. I had today off from work, so I went to the YMCA here in Woodbury. Unknown to me they close the lap pool at 6:30 am or something like that and open up the WHOLE POOL for old person ‘Water Aerobics’. So, I didn’t get my swim in.
Here are the details on my run:
Distance: 3 Miles
Time: 25:31
Calories: 455 cal
Avg HR: 162 bpm
Max HR: 183 bpm
Location: Treadmill – Woodbury YMCA
Overall nice workout. It seems short but I am on track with the program I am following. I guess the fact that I ran through most of the winter has paid off.
As an update to yesterday’s post, I was curious as to what I was doing one year ago – what kind of training I was up to, how far I was running, etc. I looked back and realized that 1 year ago I was in between the 2nd and 3rd surgeries I had last year. So, all in all, this year I am far better off.
First, sorry for not posting yesterday… Tuesdays are difficult with fire department stuff in the evening. Now that I’ve given you my feeble excuse here are the details…
Tuesday – April 3, 2007
Run
Distance: 4 miles
Time: 34:09
Calories: 575 cal
Avg HR: 159 bpm
Max HR: 180 bpm
Overall, I feel pretty good about this run. My HR stayed down for most of the run (159 avg) and I was able to keep a pretty solid pace – I felt good. I pushed the pace up to about 7:30 for the last 1/2 mile or so and that got my HR up a little… Bottom-line I feel like my fitness is improving each day, little by little. I’m going to look back and see where I was a year ago – I’ll keep you updated.
Today – April 4, 2007
Planned Workout
1 x 1 mile warm-up
4 x HILL
1 x 1 mile cool down
So far, yet today – no workout. I’ll let you know if I get it in.
